2.3 反対する
反対は、曖昧な態度と受け取られないよう、明確に表明すべきです。
また、一般の議論では、単に反対を表明するだけでなく、肯定的な表現を用いるなどの工夫をして、建設的な対案を述べる必要がります。
欧米の発言では、冒頭は賛同のように聞こえ、結果としては反対という形式をとることがしばしばあります。
英語の用法としては、I think (that) the idea is not good.のようにthat節の中ではなく、I don’t think (that) the idea is good.のようにthat節の前で否定します。
関連する表現として、拒絶される (reject) があるが、議事録等には、Ａ社の提案はrejectされたとは明記しません。表現方法としては、「継続検討 (for further study) が必要となった」や「特記された (noted)」と間接的に書かれる場合があります。こうした表現が議事録に書かれている場合には、不採用であることを十分認識しておくことが重要です。

* 直接的な反対表現はなるべく使わない方が望ましい。 I regret to say that ? と表現すると緩和される。
be against 断固反対
Regretfully, we are against the adoption of country B’s proposal.
* adoptは、採用の意味である。adapt (適用) とは異なる。
have difficulty with 問題がある
I'm afraid I have some difficulties with the text proposed by the representative of company A.
* difficultyは、可算名詞として使われる場合がある。
give concern 懸念がある
We're sorry but the suggestion by company B gives us some concern over the timing issue.
* concernは、『懸念』の意味では不可算名詞である。
find it difficult 困難に思う
At this late stage of the study, I find it rather difficult to add a completely new dimension to the draft recommendation.
not satisfied with 満足しない
Unfortunately, we are not yet satisfied with the language in the draft article X.
dissociate oneself from 距離を置く
Sorry, but I have to dissociate myself from the majority view.
hard to accept 受け入れ困難

* 通常problemとは言わず、issueという。母音で始まる可算名詞なのでanをつける。
question 疑問を呈する

I'm afraid we have some reservations regarding the conclusion you just outlined.
* 『予約』の意味ではないことに注意する。会議ではreserveは、結論を保留することであり、否定的な意見の表明に使われる。
reserve one's position 態度を留保する
As we were not given enough time to study the text, we wish to reserve our position until next week.
abstain from 棄権する
Since I need to consult our head office, I will abstain from commenting at this time.
to be confused 混乱している
I'm afraid I am totally confused. I thought the point A was already agreed yesterday.
* 相手の発言や提案に反対する場合、直接非難するのではなく、自分が混乱しているということで間接的な表現にすることが可能である。相手にこのような表現をされた場合は全く反対であることを表明されたと判断し、自分の主張を改めて理解してもらう努力が必要である。あるいは、反対者以外の参加者に賛同を求め、混乱し理解できていないのは反対者だけだと孤立させる方法もある。
